PARTICLE METHODS ONLY SUiTED FOR MODELING ADVECTIVE TRANSPORT ? SOME COUNTER - EXAMPLES

چکیده
"Particle models" is a generic term used for a broad class of simulation models in which the discrete representation of physical phenomena involves the use of interacting particles. Since this technique was first applied by Ahlstrom et al. (1977) to numerical studies of groundwater hydrology, many other researchers have used it with success. Unlike the conventional Eulerian methods, particle tracking methods (TMs) have no grid Peclet number problems or grid orientation effects, and are traditionally considered as well suited for advection dominated simulations.

Local-scale heterogeneity in natural aquifers plays a key role in solute mixing and chemical reactions. The incorporation of this scale of heterogeneity in traditional grid-based methods is difficult because of large computational costs and because of their poor accuracy in the advective-dominated transport found in most practical problems. Particle methods are an attractive alternative to simu...
متن کاملA Petri-net based modeling tool, for analysis and evaluation of computer systems
Petri net is one of the most popular methods in modeling and evaluation of concurrent and event-based systems. Different tools have been created to support modeling and simulation of different extensions of Petri net in different applications. Each tool supports some extensions and some features. In this work a Petri net based modeling and evaluation tool is presented that not only supports dif...
متن کاملSectional modeling of nanoparticle size and charge distributions in dusty plasmas
Sectional models of the dynamics of aerosol populations are well established in the aerosol literature but have received relatively less attention in numerical models of dusty plasmas, where most modeling studies have assumed the existence of monodisperse dust particles. In the case of plasmas in which nanoparticles nucleate and grow, significant polydispersity can exist in particle size distri...

Field-scale dispersion of a conservative tracer is primarily the result of smallto intermediate-scale advective processes resulting from natural heterogeneities rather than pore-scale hydrodynamic dispersion (Guven et al. 1992). Fully incorporating physical heterogeneity into a field-scale model is extremely challenging because subsurface variability is pervasive, being present from pore-scale ...
